About: John Bradt, CLC is our featured moderator. John is a certified life coach and author who has a special interest in helping others develop joyful and fulfilling lives. He is particularly interested in helping people overcome addiction. Hello, I am Coach John. I am 49 years old. I am a child abuse survivor. I am a member of Alanon and an adult child of alcoholics. I have been sober for 24 years. I have been a substance abuse counselor. I am a screenwriter - starting over again - because 10 years ago I suffered a head injury in a near fatal car accident. After that, I spent the next 2 years in rigorous physical and cognitive rehab. During that time I spent more than a year confined to a hospital bed in my home. As a consequence, I gradually began to gain weight due to lake of exercise. I eventually hit 320 lbs. it took me many years and hard work, but I am now back down below 200 lbs. I do not feel I have an eating disorder, but I do know what it is like to spend every effort trying to lose weight gradually and successfully. About 2 years after my accident I began attending Coastline College's “Acquired Brain Injury Program”. I am now on permanent disability due to the various injuries I received. I now have several learning disabilities. Last year I returned to Orange Coast College to take several basic English classes - so I could begin writing again. I do not mention these things for sympathy sack, but to show that I have overcome some serious hardships and because I want to be of help to others dealing with similar problems. I truly believe that anyone can overcome most difficulties in life, if they are willing to find enough courage to reach out and seek help from other caring people. Becoming your authentic self in life is a balance of trusting yourself and embracing people you can trust to help too. Dealing with adversity has made me a better person. I consider myself fortunate in having the opportunity to lend a hand within the FeelBeterNetwork. I Hope I can contribute to what I consider to be a wonderful group of experts and members. I will be updating this profile with an expanding list of my favorite books. The books will be in no particular order, but I highly recommend all of them :) My all time favorite book is called "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle --- Greetings friends. My 50th birthday is coming soon and I wanted to share something special with everyone. These are the song lyrics to a song written by Jackson Browne for the Concert to free Tibet. No other song I've ever enjoyed has captured the feelings I have about becoming more mindful, aware and fully conscious in daily life. I hope you enjoy it and seek out the recording :) Have an absolutely wonderful day. Thanks CoachJohn I want to live in the world, not inside my head I want to live in the world, I want to stand and be counted With the hopeful and the willing With the open and the strong With the voices in the darkness Fashioning daylight out of song And the millions of lovers Alive in the world I want to live in the world, not behind some wall I want to live in the world, where I will hear if another voice should call To the prisoner inside me To the captive of my doubt Who among his fantasies harbors the dream of breaking out And taking his chances Alive in the world To open my eyes and wake up alive in the world To open my eyes and fully arrive in the world With its beauty and its cruelty With its heartbreak and its joy With it constantly giving birth to life and to forces that destroy And the infinite power of change Alive in the world To open my eyes and wake up alive in the world To open my eyes and fully arrive in the world To open my eyes and wake up alive in the world To open my eyes and fully arrive in the world |
